A BEAUTIFUL temple of Sri Kodandarama exists at Hiremagalur , a small village about 12 miles from the world famous Belur temples and just about a mile away from the headquarters of the Coffe growing area , Chikmagalur . However , this temple cannot boast of a stately tower or lovely figures around , as a Belur . But in the exquisite charm of the presiding deity Sri Rama , lies its main attraction . A strikingly beautiful figure in the triposture (“Thribhangi”) it is a glorious combination of peace , screnity , kindness and majesty . This 5ft.2 in tall attractive idol is a delicately carved cut piece of art . From the tip of the foot to the top of the head various ornaments of intricate designs are skilfully chiselled out-the garland and the crown . The curely forelock and the earrings , the pearly beads and the bracelet , are each a thing of beauty . Similarly carved beautiful figures of Sita and Lakshmana stand by his side . All the three are installed on a long (7ft. 9 in) pedestal. The speciality of the figures is that , Sita is slightly ahead of the right, as if about to move .

And this has a story behind. It as narrated in the 17th chapter of Skanda purana when Parasurama confronted Sri Rama while he was returning from Mithila after His marriage , Sri Rama broke the bow of Parasuram, and with it his pride and haughtiness, too. Then the awakened Parasuram, in humility, Admitted that he missed His wedding out of sheer haugtiness and air of superiority, as thought it was a mere Ksahatriya getting married. He prayed to sri Rama to , grant him darshana in Kalyana Kolam. And Sri Rama granted him this, kalyana Seve by having Sita to His right and Lakshmana to the left. In memory of this and of Parasurama’s penance at this place, the place acquired the name of ‘Bhargavapuri’ .
